10 Expert Tips How to Organize and Declutter Your Home
Once you decide to get organized, the hardest step to take is committing yourself to the first organizing project. After that, the rest is easy; it's simply a matter of learning the principles of organizing, following a sensible sequence in organizing, and visualizing and defining a precise objective.
1. Evaluate your areas that need organizing
Each of the areas you plan to organize and determine which one causes the most distress; start by organizing that.
2. Do some research on your own to gain as much knowledge
There is no harm in looking at other blogs, reading books, or getting advice from friends before you dive in!
3. Have a clear, well-conceived plan
You may have a tendency to disregard the planning stage- but don't!
If you don't have a plan, you'll probably end up taking everything out of the closet. This will leave you with a mound of stuff piled on the floor with absolutely no idea how to organize it in any better manner than the way it was. This kind of impulsive behavior leads to frustration
Remember this simple equation: The more time spent planning, the less time or money spent later in physical labor or correcting mistakes.
4.Keep Things Simple
Conserving space is important, but not if it makes the system harder than having a little more space.
Keep it simple; a system that isn't being used isn't a system at all, no matter how much space is conserved- Don't be afraid to throw things away.
5.Be Consistent with your methods
The ultimate goal is to use methods that can be maintained without any extra effort on your part.
The system should be designed in such a way that you have a daily or weekly routine to keep your space in order.
6.Compromise your space.
Few things in life, including organizing a closet, can be attained without some amount of compromise.
You may have to make one space more packed to achieve advantages in another- and that is okay as long as everything is essential.
7.Use Storage Systems and Baskets
Decide what you need and then search the marketplace for the product or materials that will do the job.
Don't be afraid in investing in 10-15 baskets (the dollar store has plenty!) or even recycling shoe boxes
*Tip*- wire and straw neutral baskets generally look best
8.Keep things Uniform.
The finished project will look more attractive if your items are around the same size and for the same purpose to be efficient.
9. Trash some things
I try to throw away at least 3 things each time I organize a particular area. Also throw away any duplicate items
10. Take pictures of the finished product
Taking pictures can help you remember where things go and can serve as a template the next time you need to reorganize that area- plus it makes you feel accomplished!
Organizing your closets can appear to be a daunting task. But with the right determination and well-crafted plan, you can work your way toward a well-organized closet!
